Back to School 2016: New Schools Host Events for Students and Parents

As students head back to school in Gwinnett County on Monday, August 8, many of them will be learning their way around new buildings. GCPS opens two new schools this fall — Coleman Middle School and Baldwin Elementary School. Both schools will hold the traditional “Meet Your Teacher” event on Thursday, August 4. Parents of students who will attend these two new schools should visit their school’s website for times and additional information about these events.

Baldwin Elementary Principal Dr. Brenda Johnson is excited about the new school year and all it holds. She says, “We are fully staffed and ahead of schedule to make sure our doors will be open and ready for students. We can’t wait to meet our students, sharing with them some of the great features of our new school. In addition to offering the Dual Language Immersion program, all of our students will benefit from a Spanish special. We also have access to technology that is going to support teaching and learning throughout the school. It’s going to be a great year at Baldwin! ”

Coleman Middle School held a Community Open House on Sunday, July 24, to allow students, parents, and community members an opportunity to come explore the new facility. Principal Dr. J.W. Mozley said, “The Coleman faculty and staff are thrilled to be able to open our doors to the community and the great work that has already begun.” As a STEAM-focused middle school, Coleman will integrate science, technology, engineering, the fine arts, mathematics, and humanities as a foundation for the learning experience. The new facility provides resources, like a dance studio, to support this focus.
