Heroes Project Update: Hunter Gossard
Hunter Gossard continues to display drive and enthusiasm for each and every new task that comes his way. He has been his family”s greatest inspiration. This past December marked our 2009 Hero”s first completed year off-treatment for acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Today, he remains in remission and visits the clinic quarterly to get blood drawn and physical exams.
And now cancer free, there is nothing that can keep this young man down! Currently a fourth grader at Harmony Elementary School, he has achieved the Principal”s Honor Roll (straight A”s) each grading period since second grade. A continued outdoors enthusiast and sports lover, Hunter caught a six and a half pound brown trout while fly fishing at a local Georgia trout stream in October 2009. He also excels in playing both basketball and baseball.
But Hunter”s pride and joy may just be the newest addition to his family – a German Shorthair Pointer puppy that Hunter picked out last summer named Zelda.
So, Hunter”s response to those battling cancer is to “remain positive.”# He and his family found it helpful to stick together and lean on each other for support. “Cherish each and every moment with those you love,” said Hunter”s mother, Michelle Gossard. This year, Hunter will again be participating as Gwinnett Relay For Life”s Honorary Chairman as a childhood cancer survivor.
