You have seen it at the ballpark, schools and local festivals. You may have even experienced the magic of Kona Ice.
This is the story of how the Schraders launched their first Kona Ice® franchise in Gwinnett four years ago as a sideline business – primarily to give their teenage children the opportunity to experience running a small business and to support the community. Now, with a seven-unit fleet, it is a full-time endeavor for Richard Schrader.
Whether five or 95, Kona Ice brings extra fun to your day. Popularity for this innovative mobile shaved ice concept has grown by leaps and bounds in Gwinnett, paralleling the rise of Kona Ice as a national award-winning franchise. “Kids go ga-ga creating their own Kona Ice by mixing flavors with our patented Flavorwave,” Richard explains, “Adults also go Kona krazy.”
Kona Ice of Gwinnett believes that its success lies not only in a fantastic product and commitment to excellence, but also in its dedication to local philanthropy – giving area organizations the ability to raise funds one Kona at a time. Every organizing group receives a percentage of sales collected during the fundraising event. Kona Ice has made substantial contributions to many local organizations in the last four years and hopes to increase those contributions significantly in 2015.
“Kona Ice is the easiest fundraiser in town,” declares Richard. “You simply tell us where to park the Kona Ice truck and who to make the check out to before we leave. No need to fuss with volunteers, supplies or other equipment.”
It is clear that Kona Ice is much more than a business for Richard. Kona Ice offers employment to college age students, which allows Richard the ability to mentor his young work force in the mechanics of being a purpose-driven small business owner. Year round, you can find Richard’s energetic team all over the community – delivering fun and excitement anywhere families are celebrating life.
To show appreciation for its loyal customers, Kona Ice has renewed its #celebratelife contest for 2015, awarding prizes almost daily for posting a Kona picture on Instagram with #celebratelife, #konaicegwinnett and #konaice. This automatically enters customers in a grand prize giveaway.
