Guide To Gwinnett: Professional Sports

g2g2016-ProSports-GBravesWho doesn’t love to cheer for the home team? Great sporting events add a lot of enjoyment to life and for many fans, are a number one pastime.  Living in the metro area, we certainly have the Atlanta Braves, Falcons and Hawks close at hand. But even better, we have professional sports teams and events right here in Gwinnett that make it convenient and affordable to enjoy the pro sports experience.

We have professional baseball, hockey and lacrosse teams here — the Gwinnett Braves, the Atlanta Gladiators and the Georgia Swarm all call Gwinnett home.  The Braves take the field at Cool Ray Stadium in Buford, while both the Swam and the Gladiators play at the Infinite Energy Center in Duluth. All the teams are active in the local community and youth sports, and host a wide variety of promotional events for fans. Duluth is also home to a professional golf tournament. The PGA Champions Tour Mitsubishi Electric Classic is played at the TPC Sugarloaf Course in the spring.

Five of their six teams have competed for national titles!  These are sports that lots of kids are playing right now, so attending a college game or match can be a great family activity. Gwinnett Sports Commission: Teamwork for the Win

We all know that Gwinnett’s a great place for a sporting event, but the Gwinnett Sports Commission is on a mission to spread that message far and wide. The commission, which is a part of the Gwinnett Convention and Visitors Bureau, was founded to market and develop Gwinnett as a leading site for sports events involving youth, collegiate, amateur and professional organizations.

The staff at the commission not only works to attract sporting events to the county, they also provide all the resources and services the sponsoring organization needs to make the event a success. They provide assistance with facilities and venues, lodging, volunteer staffing, marketing and operations. All at no cost to the event organizers.

It’s the ultimate win-win. (Yep, we went there.)  The sponsoring organization receives much needed help, while Gwinnett residents enjoy the boost to the local economy and a range of great events to attend.
