The largest and most successful fundraising event for the American Cancer Society culminates at the local level May 9-10, as thousands arrive at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds to celebrate Relay for Life.
With a mission to improve cancer survival, decrease the incidence of cancer, and improve quality of life for patients and caregivers, Relay uses the tools of fundraising and awareness and thrives through the good of the community.
As the largest Relay gathering of its kind in the world, Relay for Life of Gwinnett will celebrate The 21st annual event this spring. Teams will come together to raise as much money as possible. At a minimum, each participant pledges to raise at least $100 through various fundraising efforts.
The event is a celebration that recognizes the year”s successes as well as publicizing many inspirational survivor stories. It features food, entertainment, and activities for the whole family.
The evening continues with laps around the fairgrounds track, including a fun car lap and a luminaria lap. Event Specialist Rhonda Rice describes the luminaria round as the “signature lap that honors those who have passed and those who are fighting the battle.”
It”s not too late to join Relay for Life of Gwinnett”s efforts. Volunteers are always in high demand. Those interested can visit www.relayforlife.org/gwinnettga.
More than 4 million people participate in Relay events throughout the world in more than 5,000 communities in the United States.
