Boys Basketball

Interscholastic competition for seventh and eighth grade boys.   Students must meet academic eligibility requirements. Tryouts are held in the fall. Activities include Basketball Games, Pep Rallies, and the Faculty v/s Student Game.
Girls Basketball

 Interscholastic competition for seventh and eighth grade girls. Students must meet academic eligibility requirements. Tryouts are held in the fall. Activities include Basketball Games, Pep Rallies, and the Faculty v/s Student Game.
Cheerleading

The squad promotes school spirit at basketball games and other school functions. Students must meet academic eligibility requirements. Tryouts are held in the fall. Activities include Basketball Games, Pep Rallies, and the Faculty v/s Student Game.

Chess club

Chess club is a group designed to introduce students to the game of chess.  The club will help develop skills in chess at different levels and help promote problem solving skills.

McConnell Middle School ‘s Environmental Club is open to 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. We will be be exploring environmental issues on the global as well as local level with the goal of improving society’s impact on the environment. Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of every month from 8:15-9:00 in Mr. Williamson’s room.

FBLA – Business Concepts

Future Business Leaders is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with a quarter million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.

The club engages in service activities and fund raisers to support various altruistic projects throughout the year.

Math Counts

MATHCOUNTS is a national enrichment, club and competition program that promotes middle school mathematics achievement through problem solving. Using problems written by the National Society of Professional Engineers, Mathcounts goal is to provide today’s students with the foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and math careers. Competition in December to anyone who would like to take the test. The top 8 kids go to regionals.

Reader’s Rally

Readers Rally is a reading quiz bowl style competition. Students read books from a pre-determined list and answer questions about those books.
The 2016 Readers Rally will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Berkmar High School.

Relay for Life is a unique, fun way to raise money for the American Cancer Society while increasing cancer awareness in the Gwinnett Community. Activities include: Dressed Down for a Cause, Link Together for a Cure, Candy Cane Grams, Talent Show, Hearts, Silent Auction, Mini-Relay, as well as other fundraising events.  The County Relay Event is at the Fairgrounds in May.  Relay for Life is open to all MMS Students and teachers.

Cardio Club

This club is open to all students interested in running for fitness. Activities include 5K runs in the community.

Principal’s Advisory Council (PAC)
-Clent Chatham
The Principal’s Advisory Council is a forum for student-leader interaction across all grade levels. Participation in the PAC is determined by an application process which includes a teacher recommendation. Members discuss with the principal ideas and recommendations for making McConnell Middle School a better place for all.  Meetings will be held monthly.

Thr!ve

Thr!ve is a student-led organization for students to meet for devotional and fellowship activities. It allows for leadership opportunities at all grade levels and is open to all students. Starting 9-10-2015, Campus Thr!ve will meet in room 2.220 on the TEAL HALL @ 8:15am….   Meetings will be every other Thursday….

FCA

FCA provides an opportunity for young athletes and other students to learn about character and living out their faith in sports and other activities. It will meet the 4th Friday of each month on the pink hall in room 2.231.

Robotics Club

The McConnell Robotics Club is open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders interested in learning to design, build and program Lego NXT robots. The team may possibly compete in an event with other middle schools. Meetings on Thursdays at 8:00 am.

Open to all MMS students and teachers who would like to be licensed radio operators.  Activities include training to become FCC licensed, radio protocol and etiquette practice, emergency services support training (ARES & SkyWarn), and participation in ham radio competitions. Meetings are weekly after school hours.
