[hot looks for fall]

Wondering what to ditch and what to add to your closet in order to be trendy this season? We went straight to our fashion experts to find out what”s going to be hot – and what”s simply not! Check out these insider secrets to looking fabulous this fall.

Inventory what you have
If your closet is already stocked with scarves, bright colors, clothing for layered looks and skinny jeans, you”re well on your way to being a fashion diva this fall, according to Angie Russell at Montage Gifts and Boutique in Duluth. Russell says scarves with any type of shirt, "even if it”s just a t-shirt," are big this fall.

However, don”t be afraid to mix pieces you already own with some of the newest styles of the season.

Karly Felton, a representative from Coldwater Creek says, "Traditionally, fall has focused on bringing darker items back in the closet…but this fall, you”ll find rich colors like deep reds, purples and navy…" But don”t exclude black.

Be classy and sexy
Uptown Girl Boutique owners Michelle Jarusinski, Ashley McCann and Mary Ann Jarusinski say that when buying for fall, look for fashion items that are both sexy and classy – including clothes that emphasize the waist. According to these fashionistas, the latest clothing trends are easier to wear and have a longer shelf life.

Arlene Goldstein, vice president of trend merchandising and fashion direction for Belk, says that feminine styles, often with a retro feel are back this fall. She says items to add to your closet include boyfriend sweaters, sweater dresses, dark and dressy denim, jackets that show your shape, frilly feminine blouses, and day clutches – make sure they”re bold in color and oversized.

In addition, Goldstein says new colorful plaids, art deco-inspired prints, animal prints and flat florals are hot topics when it comes to pattern this year. And, the latest "it" item? Jewelry! "Don”t be afraid to go glam with dramatic earrings, rings, bracelets – and most importantly – necklaces…This year accessories will be more creative than classic," she adds.

Go fancy with footwear
Jacqueline Toulon, owner of Monkee”s of Sugarloaf, says this season will bring a mix of materials when it comes to footwear. She advises shoppers” to look for dark tones, a patchwork of fabrics and a menswear influence bringing out the masculine side of feminine. "Just have fun with it – fall 2008 will be exciting," she reminds.
