In a beautiful ballroom charged with an atmosphere of proud anticipation, collegiality and just the right amount of pomp, Gwinnett County Public Schools showcases each fall one of the factors that clearly makes this community so successful and desirable as a place to live, work and raise a family. And what space more appropriate to write about it than in Gwinnett Magazine”s "Best of Gwinnett" edition!

The "showcase" event is the school district”s annual Gwinnett County Teacher of the Year (TOTY) banquet, and the "success factor" is the 11,000 teachers who make up the finest teaching corps in the business. Gwinnett”s thousands of dedicated educators are represented at the banquet by the teacher from each school chosen as its teacher of the year. In a three-phase selection process that identifies 20 semi-finalists, then six finalists from whom the eventual winner is named, excellence in teaching and learning is the central focus. Selecting the winner from such a rich pool of candidates is never easy!

The Gwinnett County Board of Education and I are impressed every year with the caliber of the teachers the TOTY banquet celebrates. We know they are representative of a teaching force that would be the envy of any school system.
