Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) recently appointed Gretchen Hayward as a diagnostic nurse navigator at Gwinnett Medical Center to provide patients with additional coordination and guidance through the diagnostic process.

GMC will now have a two person breast nurse navigation team. Officials with the hospital said Hayward will enhance the team by being available during the diagnostic and treatment process to provide information, support, navigation and coordination of services. Patient experience is emphasized in all care and treatment at GMC, officials said, and the recent addition will aid in supporting that philosophy.

Hayward recently received certification through the National Consortium of Breast Centers (NCBC), the nationally recognized organization for breast centers. Her credentials include CBPN-IC, Certified Breast Patient Navigator in both imaging and cancer. Hayward”s certification will enhance patient safety, quality of care and delivery of services.

“We are excited about what our navigators bring to GMC”s cancer care resources,”# said GMC President and CEO Phil Wolfe. “Hayward is dedicated to assisting# patients through their diagnosis at GMC. Her expertise will ensure the program offers the best possible care to those who need it supported by the necessary medical resources.”#

Hayward will help GMC reach the goal of expanding oncology”s offerings to comprehensively address needs regarding the ongoing care for patients.

Breast health nurse navigators are a part of the many cancer support programs available for GMC patients. Navigators facilitate the connection between GMC patients and all available resources including educational materials, healthy lifestyle programs, rehabilitation services, support groups and American Cancer Society services for appearance, transportation, medical equipment and more.
