Just a short car ride away from Gwinnett County, Athens is home to the University of Georgia, family- friendly activities, and a slew of talented artists and musicians.

Athens” Artistic Offerings
Athens has a number of cultural events for visitors including Athens Unleashed and 6X6 Media Arts. Athens Unleashed is a unique experience that consists of performance and visual arts presentations in untraditional locations all around town. During Athens Unleashed, visitors may find themselves part of someone”s improv comedy routine as they walk down the street or be asked to paint a picture as they wait for the bus. 6X6 Media Arts occurs monthly, and it”s described as a cross between a film festival and an art show. Each month, the presentation is centered on a different theme.

Athens Night life
Athens also has a reputable nightlife with music clubs and bars that cater to a wide variety of musical tastes. Athens is known throughout the country as a touch point for great artistic talents, and it”s where bands like REM, Widespread Panic and the B-52″s got their start. The New York Times refers to Athens as “Live Music Central,”and Rolling Stone Magazine named Athens the “#1 College Music Scene in America.”

Outside of nightlife, Athens is especially known for AthFest, a music, arts, kids & film festival in downtown Athens that attracts hundreds of musicians and artists, and takes place this year June 23-29.

Kids and Pets
Athens is also family and pet-friendly and has a number of activities that cater to everyone.

Of course, Athens is home to nationally-recognized UGA athletics. Visitors will swarm the town during football season, proudly decked out in red and black. There”s nothing like cheering on your favorite team in a stadium filled with almost 93,000 screaming fans.
