Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners
District IV Commissioner
Kevin Kenerly has been on the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners since 1995. He represents northern and central Gwinnett including Buford, Sugar Hill and Lawrenceville. A lifelong Gwinnett resident and Berkmar High School graduate, Kenerly is active in Gwinnett#s business and civic communities, having founded a real estate company and dedicated his time to coaching youth sports for many years.
"I love working with people. One of my greatest strengths is talking with people and bringing two sides of an issue together to look at the various ways it can be resolved."
Gwinnett County Commissioner
Kevin Kenerly has been serving as a Gwinnett County Commissioner for a decade. But his family roots and Gwinnett ties run much deeper than that. Generations of Kenerlys have lived in this area since the 1700s.
Now serving his third four-year term, Kenerly represents Buford, Sugar Hill and Lawrenceville. As a county commissioner, Kenerly and the board set direction and policy for the county government while adopting a budget, authorizing expenditures and approving – or disapproving – rezoning of private property.
That”s not always an easy task. But being able to assist citizens and work through issues gives him great satisfaction.
“I love working with people. One of my greatest strengths is talking with people and bringing two sides of an issue together to look at the various ways it can be resolved,” said Kenerly.
As commissioner, this dad of four knows that the Gwinnett County government works to the benefit of the people. He points to the county”s AAA bond rating as an example to prove Gwinnett”s tax dollars are spent efficiently.
“The quality of life in Gwinnett draws people here. Thirty-five years ago, our entire population was less than 10 percent of today”s population of nearly 700,000 residents," Kenerly said. “That gives us a vibrant, dynamic economy with jobs and opportunities."
“Over the next few years, we can improve the quality of life for all Gwinnett residents by implementing capital improvement plans focused on the provision of clean water, protective services, transportation and transit, libraries and recreation," he added.
As an avid sports memorabilia collector, Kenerly is not shy about exhibiting his extensive collection. Much of it is on display in his office and often acts as a natural icebreaker. “You can always find common ground when talking about a favorite college football team or professional athlete," Kenerly said.
His love of sports keeps him involved at the local level, as head coach in the Gwinnett Football League for nine years and as a member of the Lilburn Football Board for five years. He also enjoys giving back to the community by assisting with Creative Enterprises. Kevin and his family attend Lawrenceville Church of God.
