Town Center Park will go “Under the Sea”# July 27 and 28 during Suwanee Performing Arts” (SPA) annual summer performance and fundraiser, Broadway in the Park (BIP), featuring Disney”s The Little Mermaid Jr. and Filligan”s Island, a one act taken from Gilligan”s Island, will begin the event at 7 p.m.
More than 75 cast and crew will take area residents to a magical kingdom fathoms below, where the beautiful young mermaid Ariel (Erin Caruso) longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above. But first, she”ll have to defy her father King Triton (Jonathan McCravy), make a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula (Rachel Wagner), and convince Prince Eric (Justin Hermosilla) that she”s the girl with the enchanting voice.
“Last year, Bernie and I heard whispers that The Little Mermaid was going to be available for amateur licensing and we knew that if this was the case we had our BIP show for the summer,”# explains Patty Etherton, SPA founder and creative director. “This show is colorful, fun and so many people are familiar with the show that attendees will be able to sing along making the experience even more memorable.”#
Adapted from Disney”s 2008 Broadway production, Disney”s The Little Mermaid Jr. features the hit songs “Part of Your World,” “She”s in Love” and the Oscar-winning “Under the Sea.” The performance is considered a junior show because it is a condensed version of the Broadway production released for amateur theater.
Filligan”s Island, written and produced by SPA Founders Berneta Bock Davis and Patty Etherton, will captivate audiences with humorous spoofs, daring adventure and lots of singing, dancing and laughter.
Children will be captivated at an “Under the Sea”# Tea and Meet and Greet with Ariel and her friends that begins the festivities each day at 10:30 a.m. in Town Center Park. Tickets are required to be purchased in advance for the event and are $25 per child. Contact SPA at 770.821.7654 or email@example.com to reserve your seat.
Admission to the shows is free, but make either day a family day at the park. Arrive early to claim seats near the front of the stage, participate in the Island Market featuring vendors and activities similar to a port for cruise ships from 4-7 p.m. and dine at local restaurants.
