The Community Foundation for Northeast Georgia awarded the largest amount of grants to date at this year’s grants breakfast. Held on May 16th at The 1818 Club, the event was one of the highlights of the year for the Community Foundation. Twenty-eight grants were awarded, totaling $303,409! The Community Foundation’s Good2Give Community Fund provides the funding for the grants, and, with the help of fundholders, is the largest distribution for the annual grant cycle.
“This is why we do what we do,” said Randy Redner, executive director of the Community Foundation. “We are surrounded by many incredible nonprofits doing incredible work each and every day. To be able to support some of them in the work they do, to help them impact even more people and change even more lives – that is part of our mission at the Community Foundation.
“Including this year’s grants, the Community Foundation has now donated more than $80 million to worthy charities since 1985!”
This year, the Community Foundation streamlined the grants process, asking nonprofits to initially submit a letter of intent. After careful review by the grants committee, selected nonprofits were then asked to submit a grant application. Winners were announced in early May 2017.
The main focus of this year’s grant awards were food insufficiency, early education and homelessness. However, up to one third of the Community Foundation’s grant funding was also allocated for programs and projects outside of the focus areas, including the arts, healthcare, environment and more.
“Our grants committee, chaired by Julie Keeton Arnold, worked tirelessly to selected our 28 nonprofit winners,” Redner said. “It was not an easy task. Additionally, our generous fundholders stepped in again, allowing us to go above and beyond so we could grant all of those 28 requests. We are so thankful for the incredibly generous community and fundholders we have!”
Anyone can give to the Community Foundation’s Good2Give Community Fund. There is no age limit or dollar amount restrictions on the fund as giving is something the Community Foundation wants the entire community involved in. To donate or learn more, visit www.cfneg.org.
