With a pharmacist father and a nurse mother, Samuel John always knew that a career in healthcare was in his veins.
Now, as a professor and residency program director for the Pharmacy Program at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Georgia Campus, Dr. John is focused on teaching another generation with a pharmacy career in sight. It’s a role he finds tremendously fulfilling. “The ability to make a difference in a student’s life or in influencing their career path has been the most rewarding aspect of my job.”
The variety and flexibility of a pharmacy career is a plus for aspiring pharmacists, says Dr. John. Pharmacists are able to practice in a wide range of settings – from independent or community pharmacies to hospitals – and even specialize in disease state management.
The PCOM Residency Program that Dr. John directs is a one-year advanced clinical training program that prepares graduates to practice as clinical pharmacists, as well as teach.
