As temperatures decrease and leaves begin to change color, historic sites across Duluth take on a beautiful autumn glow. That’s why more than 50 Plein air artists are coming to the city for a weekend of capturing the scenic views! Plein air simply means “to paint outdoors.” The event, Paint Duluth 5, is a fundraiser taking place from Oct. 8 to Oct. 11 and concluding with a reception where attendees can meet the artists and purchase their finished pieces.
The skilled painters will set up their easels at locations like the Southeastern Railway Museum, historic downtown Duluth, the Chattahoochee River, and McDaniel Farm Park to create more than 150 pieces. 20 of the event participants are full-time professional artists.
After a full weekend of workshops and painting, the artists will gather at a public reception on Sunday, Oct. 11 from 6 – 8 p.m. Refreshments will be offered and locals will get a chance to meet the artists, vote on their favorite paintings, and purchase the finished pieces at friendly prices. The display and sale of all art will continue each day through Saturday, Oct. 17.
Paint Duluth 5 is hosted by 2 Smith Art Gallery and The City of Duluth and is a fundraiser for two non-profits, the Duluth Public Art Commission, and the Duluth Fine Art League. To learn more, go to paintduluth.com or check out their Instagram @paintduluthgeorgia.
