Philemon Maliro, a parent of a student at Meadowcreek High School, has been named a 2016 Georgia Parent Leadership Award by the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) and the Georgia Parent Teacher Association (GA PTA). The award was created by the GaDOE and GA PTA to recognize parents for their outstanding leadership in creating a foundation of support for student achievement and success. The Georgia Parent Leadership Awards are given each year to up to six parents and may represent both Title I and Non-Title I schools. The six state winners for 2016 are from four elementary and two high schools, but parents may be nominated from any school level. Winners of the 2016 Georgia Parent Leadership Award become one-year honorary members of the State SuperintendentÂ’s Parent Advisory Council to have opportunities throughout the year to share their story by promoting and assisting parent engagement activities at the state level.
