Jordan Middle School was named for H. Rhodes Jordan, a longtime citizen and public servant in the city of Lawrenceville.
Hilliard Rhodes Jordan was born Oct. 16, 1918, in Lawrenceville. His paternal grandfather and father were Lawrenceville City Council members. Mr. Jordan, a lifelong resident of Lawrenceville, practiced law in the town for 52 years. He served as the mayor of Lawrenceville several times (1963-68, 1975-78, 1981-84, and 1987-88).
Mr. Jordan attended Emory University, graduated from Atlanta Law School, and served in the Navy during World War II. He belonged to the Gwinnett County Bar Association, State Bar of Georgia, American Legion, Kiwanis, and Masons. Mr. Jordan was also a Sunday school teacher and deacon at First Baptist Church of Lawrenceville.
