A new soccer complex is coming soon to Rock Springs Park at 550 Rock Springs Road in north central Gwinnett County. Phase two construction will also include a playground with an open shelter, a dog park, an expansion of the existing loop trail, and a new entrance and parking at the intersection of Old Peachtree Road and Collins Hill Road.
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners awarded the $5.9 million construction contract to Astra Group Inc. on Tuesday. The 2009 SPLOST program is funding the project.
District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks said, “Rock Springs is already a very popular park, but this expansion will greatly increase the recreational opportunities available to residents in the area.” The park opened in 2008 with a lighted football field, six lighted tennis courts, picnic pavilion, playground, and two miles of multi-purpose trails. A citizen steering committee helped develop the master plan for the 113-acre park in 2005.
Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash said, “Gwinnett County is fortunate to have a nationally recognized parks system, and, once again, we thank Gwinnett voters for their support of SPLOST.”
