Brookwoods Wilson Wins Media Specialist of the Year Honor

The Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA) named Brookwood High School’s Jan Wilson the 2016 Georgia Library Media Specialist of the Year. The award recognizes K-12 library media specialists with dynamic, innovative programs and whose instructional collaborations foster student engagement and achievement.

“To win this award is a great honor,” said Wilson. “I felt fortunate to be nominated in our county because we have plenty of deserving media specialists working in our schools. I don’t refer to my profession as my job or my career. This profession is my calling and I feel rewarded at the end of the day, I belong in a school.”

The process for selecting the state honoree began months ago at the district level. Wilson was named the Gwinnett Media Specialist of the Year in January of 2016 and then won the Metro District honor in May 2016. She was one of 10 district winners from across the state competing for the state title.

Wilson says she could not have won the title without help. She explains, “This award was presented to me as an individual, but the teachers, students, and administrators at Brookwood High School deserve recognition for the media program as well. I am blessed to be surrounded by a community of creativity and passion. The most important relationships are the ones I form with teachers and students.”
