Documents related to zoning of a 2.5 million-square-foot facility in Stone Mountain has sparked speculation that Amazon could be planning a distribution center for the county. Based on parking capacity, some speculate that the facility could involve as many as 1800 jobs.
The property in question lies in both Gwinnett and DeKalb counties, though the facility itself would be entirely within Gwinnett.
Code-named “Project Rocket” in documents submitted to the Gwinnett planning commissions, the building would be 80 feet tall, requiring a zoning variance.
Many Atlanta-area observers believe an upcoming Amazon facility is the most likely explanation for the secret facility, which would (if jobs estimates are correct) be among Gwinnett’s largest employers.
