GCPS Students Receive Back to School Backpacks and School Supplies

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, (AKA), one of the nation’s oldest sororities, has donated more than 500 backpacks to Gwinnett County Public Schools. The backpacks, which contain school supplies, will be distributed to students in need at Annistown, Centerville, Shiloh, Norton, Partee, Britt, and Lovin Elementary Schools as well as students at Summerour Middle School. AKA has set a goal of collecting and distributing one million backpacks and related school supplies to students over a four year period.

Evermore Hwy. 78 Community Improvement District (CID) www.evermorecid.org also played a role in the project’s success by transporting the backpacks to the schools.

“Our mission as a community improvement district (CID) is to make our community a great place to live, work, and shop. CID projects generally focus on transportation and infrastructure, but this was a chance for a business owner to demonstrate that a good community means helping others in time of need.  The multigenerational Patterson Family, owners of Furniture Village and engaged community members for more than four decades, willingly offered to transport donations to Gwinnett for the benefit of children with need,” said Evermore Chairman Chris Garner. www.furniturevillageonline.com
