New Campus Now Open in North Fulton

Gwinnett Tech is celebrating the new year with a new campus! Classes begin this month at the new Alpharetta-North Fulton campus on Old Milton Parkway.

Already one of Georgia’s largest technical colleges, Gwinnett Tech’s new campus could serve almost 10,000 students when fully developed. This first building, housing classrooms, labs and administrative offices, is one of three planned.

The new campus houses many of the college’s most popular programs, including accounting, medical billing, hospitality management and entrepreneurship. Computer Information Systems classes will also be offered at the campus, including courses in JAVA, C++, HTML5, Cybersecurity and CISCO systems.

Gwinnett Tech has been serving the North Fulton area since 2010 and also offers dual enrollment for area high school students, adult education classes and continuing education options.

There’s still time to register for the Spring Semester mini-mester at both the Lawrenceville and North Fulton campuses.

Application deadline: Feb. 10. Classes begin: Feb. 24. Call 770-962-7580 or visit GwinnettTech.edu/apply.

Want a Career in the Film Industry? Take Georgia Film Academy Classes at Gwinnett Tech

Georgians who want to get on the fast track to a career in professional filmmaking can now enroll in the Georgia Film Academy at Gwinnett Tech.

The Georgia Film Academy (GFA), a unique-in-the-nation, statewide effort to train Georgians for lucrative jobs in the film industry, will begin offering classes in January, in partnership with the University System of Georgia (USG) and the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG).

"We’ve been working for the past year to ensure that our students in Gwinnett and North Fulton have the opportunity to participate in this growing industry, which offers so much potential for exciting careers. We’re very appreciative to be the first technical college to work with the Georgia Film Academy on this new certificate program," said Dr. D. Glen Cannon, Gwinnett Tech president.

The GFA’s pilot certificate program is comprised of two courses specifically designed to provide students with on-set film production skills:

• The first course combines classroom instruction and hands-on experience with industry standard equipment.

• The second course is a semester on-set, where students learn and hone their craft while working on the crew of a professional production.

Initially, these GFA courses will be offered on the campuses of Gwinnett Technical College, Clayton State University and Columbus State University. There are plans to expand the courses to additional campuses, as well as Pinewood Studios, in Fayetteville, in the near future.
Seats in these classes are expected to fill quickly! Learn more at www.georgiafilmacademy.org,

Second Chance at Education Has Heidi Fielden Soaring

When Heidi Fielden first stepped onto the Gwinnett Tech campus, she was not thinking about career options or degrees. The Snellville resident’s priority was to earn her GED® credential. Now, with that goal reached, this young woman and mother to son Kai is reaching for new goals at the college and wearing a new title – Gwinnett Tech EAGLE.

"There are 1.2 million adults in Georgia who don’t have their high school diploma or GED," Fielden said. "Until last summer, I was a part of that statistic."

EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) acknowledges the outstanding accomplishments of Georgians who enroll in the Technical College System of Georgia’s 28 Adult Education programs.

Fielden earned her GED® credential earlier this year while simultaneously earning a business certificate through the Accelerating Opportunity Program, which allows students to pursue both their GED® credential and a career credential. Now pursuing an associate degree, Fielden wants to become a dental hygienist.
