Remember the movie Pay it Forward? The 2000 film popularized the idea of repaying a good deed with service to others rather than to the original benefactor a way to create a ripple effect of good works. The phrase practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty, written by Anne Herbert on a placemat in Sausalito, California in 1982, became a universal call to action which has now given rise to a specially designated week for Random Acts of Kindness, to be celebrated Feb. 12 – 18, 2017.
We are capable of being kind every day. To lead with our hearts. And if today wasn’t our best effort, we can try again tomorrow.
Kindness may be the most essential, most powerful element of our humanity, and sometimes we just forget to use it. Or were out of practice, become a little too rushed, a little too guarded, a little cynical. But because it’s in our nature, we can rekindle it with a simple resolve to make eye contact and smile. We can be a little more patient with our co-workers and a lot more patient with our family. We can say thank you, give cuts in line and let the other car go first. (Yes, we really can.) And after that, we can really step it up and offer to help before were asked, fill the silence with a supportive comment and reach out to someone we know is hurting.
As a new year approaches, we’d like to ask you to embrace the spirit of kindness, giving and paying if forward right here in Gwinnett. We have a great community with unique people from all walks of life and it’s up to all of us to do our part in making our world the best it can be. #lovegwinnett

“Humble and Kind”
by Tim McGraw
(written by Lori McKenna)
You know there’s a light that glows by the front door
Don’t forget the keys under the mat
When childhood stars shine,
Always stay humble and kind
Go to church cause your mamma says to
Visit grandpa every chance that you can
It won’t be wasted time
Always stay humble and kind
Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb
But always stay humble and kind
When the dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride
But always stay humble and kind
Don’t expect a free ride from no one
Don’t hold a grudge or a chip and here’s why:
Bitterness keeps you from flyin’
Always stay humble and kind
Know the difference between sleeping with someone
And sleeping with someone you love
I love you ain’t no pick-up line
So always stay humble and kind
Hold the door, say please, say thank you
Don’t steal, don’t cheat, and don’t lie
I know you got mountains to climb
But always stay humble and kind
When those dreams you’re dreamin’ come to you
When the work you put in is realized
Let yourself feel the pride
But always stay humble and kind
When it’s hot, eat a root beer popsicle
Shut off the AC and roll the windows down
Let that summer sun shine
Always stay humble and kind
Don’t take for granted the love this life gives you
When you get where you’re going don’t forget turn back around
And help the next one in line
Always stay humble and kind
