GA-PCOM joined medical schools across the nation in offering Camp Cardiac and Camp Neuro to area high school students this summer. Planned by medical students and supported by faculty members, the not-for-profit camps introduce interested youth ages 15 and up to such topics as heart anatomy and physiology, diagnosing and treating a heart attack, suturing, physical therapy, the stages of a stroke, as well as living a healthy lifestyle, both mentally and physically, applying to medical school, and concussion diagnosis and prevention. A healthcare career day, discussions on recreational drugs and neurotransmitters, as well as CPR certification, rounded out some of the activities offered at the week-long camp.
