s part of its 2016-17 Peach State Federal Credit Union Signature Series, Aurora Theatre is pleased to announce the addition of two-time Tony Award-winning musical The Bridges of Madison County, playing March 9- April 16! Based on the popular novel by Robert James Waller, the highly anticipated production will star two of the regions leading actors Travis Smith (MEMPHIS and CHRISTMAS CANTEEN) and Kristin Markiton (INTO THE WOODS). Directed by Auroras Associate Artistic Director Justin Anderson, musical direction will be led by Aurora co-founder and Associate Producer Ann-Carol Pence.
The choice to produce The Bridges of Madison County was a natural one because, like the rest of the shows in the coming season, its filled with strong emotion and celebration of diversity, said Pence. Its our goal to continue to produce thought provoking and meaningful theater for audiences, and were confident that by including this production in the upcoming season, we will succeed.
Set in a sleepy town in Iowa, The Bridges of Madison County explores the forbidden, whirlwind love affair between a National Geographic photographer named Robert and a lonely, Italian housewife Francesca, over the course of four days. Caught between decision and desire, as their chance encounter turns into a second chance at love, Robert and Francesca must decide if finally finding their soul mate is worth disrupting their current lives. Proclaimed as one of the most romantic stories ever written, this irresistible tale speaks to the power of love and the consequences that can go with it.
