Thousands of drenched volunteers and participants were crushed when the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Gwinnett, an event months in the making, had to be canceled on May 12 due to severe thunderstorms.
“For the first time in 24 years, we had to make the difficult decision to cancel our event,” says Roxanne Tigue, senior community manager for the American Cancer Society. “Our first concern was for everyone’s safety. Yet, we immediately knew that we needed to properly celebrate the hard work, care, and love that the Gwinnett community put into making this the world’s largest and most successful Relay.”
With recognition and celebration in mind, Gwinnett Relay leaders and volunteers are planning an event for Mon., Oct. 16, at the Infinite Energy Center to wrap up 2017 with a purple glove dance, survivor walk, and luminary ceremony. The event also will kick off planning for the 2018 25th anniversary of Gwinnett’s Relay. Stay tuned for details!
