Founded by Former Youth Mayor Taylor Morain, the Sugar Hill Youth Ambassadors is a sub-group created by the Youth and City council. It highlights the quintessential motive of every student to be involved in his or her community. The Sugar Hill Youth Ambassadors (SHYA) is a service-based organization, which allows student outlook in their community. They are known for volunteering at local establishments, and help the city create events, mainly targeting younger generations and families.
Hannah Lee is a sophomore at Lanier High School and an active member of the Youth Ambassadors. When asked about her experience this past year she responded, “My experience as a Sugar Hill Ambassador was incredible. When I volunteered at events, I was not only helping, but I also become closer with the ambassadors. Additionally, the meetings helped me become more knowledgeable on what is going on in Sugar Hill. It even helped me with my public speaking skills.”
Throughout the year, Ambassadors are given objectives to create a youth targeting activity in a city-hosted event or create an entire event of their own! As an Ambassador, members are often given opportunities to go beyond Sugar Hill and do something extraordinary. Last year, members were invited to Gwinnett Technical College to make flowerbeds for the campus horticulture event, and in April, members visited Rainbow Village. These events not only enabled members to do community service beyond just their schools, but it also allowed them to get a look at their city and recognize all the amazing possibilities our community has to offer.
This year, the Youth Ambassadors will celebrate its third year and mark a new generation of members in the club. The Ambassadors is open for all students living in North Gwinnett, Lanier and Buford High schools.
