Cara Mund, Miss America 2018, will be making her first public address to the Riverside Military Academy community on Tuesday, 3 October 2017, at 10:45 am, in the Cervantes Theater on campus. Miss Mund was crowned Miss America on September 10, 2017 during the annual competition in Atlantic City.
Miss Mund, 23, is an Ivy League Honors Graduate from Brown University headed to law school. At age 14, she founded North Dakota’s Annual Make-A-Wish Fashion Show. For 10 years she has brightened 23 Wish Kids’ lives, became a “Certified Wish Granter,” and raised over $78,500 for Make-A-Wish. In 2011, President Barack Obama recognized Miss Mund’s charitable efforts. Miss Mund is a national dance champion and trained four summers with the Radio City Rockettes.
Miss Mund’s recent work in the United States Senate and her passion for helping others ignited her own wish — to become the first Miss America from North Dakota. During her visit to Riverside Military Academy, she will bring the perspective of a young adult, thrust into national prominence in an iconic role, and will discuss the importance of character and integrity in fulfilling her duties. Riverside Military Academy will be live streaming this event on their Facebook page.
The RMA faculty panel presentation, originally scheduled for 3 October, has been rescheduled to Tuesday, 10 October. A full listing of Distinguished Speakers for academic year 17-18 can be found on the Riverside web site.
