The new football season is right around the corner, and Buford High School supporters are as excited as ever… but perhaps a little more nervous than usual after last year’s successful schedule ended on a sour note.
Having won 10 state championships since 2001 and playing in the title game for 10 years in a row, last season’s stunning 45-7 loss to Rome wasn’t quite what Buford fans are used to.
After the loss, coach John Ford told the Gwinnett Daily Post, “I’m going to work my tail off to make sure they never feel this way again.”
Ford, who was in his fist year at Buford last season, replaced coach Jess Simpson, whose teams won seven state championships in 13 years. Simpson replaced Hall of Fame coach Dexter Wood, who brought three championships to the school.
Buford’s non-conference season opener against Tucker is scheduled for August 17 at Georgia State University Stadium.
