Katie Gonzalez actively participates in the Collins Hill community because of her passion for bringing others together. Katie takes on several leadership roles at Collins Hill High School including president of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, president of Key Club, chaplain of National Honor Society, member of the Gwinnett Student Leadership Team, and she was recently elected as senior class president.
When asked about the impact that she hopes to have on the school before she leaves, Katie stated, “In these past four years, my goal has been to bring our students together and set aside our differences to become a community of people that serves one another and relies on one another.”
Only a couple of months into the school year, Katie is already hard at work to make her goals for a more united school community a reality. Her idea for the “Hill Card,” a reward system for students that participate in school events, was implemented at the start of this year.
At a recent leadership summit hosted by Collins Hill’s leadership team, Katie taught a breakout session on integrity and played a large role in organizing the service projects. In the coming weeks, Katie will be running for captain of the swim team and orchestrating more school events, such as Collins Hill’s community-wide culture night.
With her interests in service extending far beyond school, Katie is a positive role-model for other students. She has volunteered at a pop-up clinic in Guatemala and her experiences inspired her future career plans. Katie plans to pursue a career in the medical field and work overseas in South America because she would like to provide healthcare to impoverished citizens.
Her genuine passion and excitement for serving others makes Katie an inspiring example for the students of Collins Hill High School.
