The drink specialists at Beverage Superstore want you to add something bigger and bolder to your next cocktail: whiskey.
Whiskey is the perfect addition to any alcoholic cocktail looking to add a little pep-in-its-step. Gaining popularity in the 1500s, the Scottish national drink now comes in many different forms.
In essence, whiskey is a spirit distilled from fermented grain mash. The fermented mash can come from wheat, rye barley or corn. That grain is then aged in wooden barrels.
The most common form of American whiskey is bourbon. However, American Bourbon must be made from 51 percent corn to be considered Bourbon but other types of whiskey do not. Bourbon must also be stored in charred-oak barrels to be classified as bourbon while traditional whiskey does not.
While Whiskey has always been known as a Scottish drink, in the 19th century, it made its debut to the rest of the world due in part to breakout of phylloxera that decimated most of the wine vineyards all over Europe. Soon, whiskey spread to be a common household liquor.
Today, there are millions of people enjoying all types of whiskey. So if you’re looking to add a little kick to your next drink, trying following this cocktail recipe from Beverage Superstore featuring the one and only, rye whiskey.
