The Berkmar saying is “Believe in the B.” August 21, 2017 was the day Berkmar Believed in the Eclipse. August 21, 2017 was a day to write down in your books. It was the day when a rare solar eclipse was visible in the United States, an event that hasn’t happened in 39 years. A solar eclipse happens when there is an alignment with the sun, moon, and the earth. The sun is obscured from us as the moon starts to shield its light.
The sun, earth, and the moon have seen more history than any human alive. The earth being 4.543 billion years, the moon 5.43 billion years, and the Sun 4.5 billion years. They witnessed firsthand the creation of humanity. They witnessed hatred, love, and jealousy between the people breathing and living on the earth’s surface. Those many years of history, gave Berkmar many wonderful memories.
Rhonda Coleman once said, “For a brief minute, everybody is doing the same thing at the same time.” The viewing brought people together, you forget that you have junior dues, you forget you’re sitting next to an underclassman. You forget about applying for colleges, and finding a job. You forget that graduation is nine months away. And you forget all about the worries and stress in life. Teachers came outside their four-walled rooms, best friends sat together on the bleachers, and history was made. On August 21, 2017, Berkmar Believed in the Eclipse.
